    Event DescriptionJoin us for a workshop inspired by The Obama Portraits Tour and works in the High's permanent collection. We will begin with a visit to the galleries to investigate the elements of art and principles of design, finding inspiration in repetitive patterns and textile materials. Afterwards, we'll work independently to explore the unique technique of block printing and stamping on fabric. We'll learn safe carving methods to develop printing blocks and stamps and explore resist techniques, Gelli printing, and recycled and repurposed printing tools.Studio Sessions take place in the Education Center but meet in the Taylor Lobby. They are designed for adults, but all ages are welcome. Materials will be provided. She has over thirty years of experience as a teaching artist, working in inclusive classrooms for all ages and abilities, and is affiliated with VSA International/Kennedy Center, The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Decatur Education Foundation, Utah State University's Arts Access Program, and the High Museum of Art. She has appeared on many radio and television shows discussing and demonstrating her art form, including HGTV's Crafters Coast to Coast. Her artwork has been featured in magazines, including Quilt Magazine and MARTA's MARTA on the Go, and is included in several private and corporate collections such as the estate of the late B. B. King, Faith Ringgold, The University of Maryland, Turner Broadcasting, and The Coca-Cola Company. She is the author of the how-to book Hand-Dyed Quilts.Marquetta offers STEM/STEAM-inspired art experiences virtually for grades K-12. She also encourages young artists to embrace quilting through her blog for the Modern Quilt Guild's member newsletter, discussing how the art of quilting intersects with science, technology, engineering, art, and math. She can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Etsy (@marquettabquilting) and at her website, marquettabquilting.com.Please note: Participation in this course requires proof of vaccination. All participants will be asked to present a physical vaccination card, a photo of a physical card, or a digital confirmation of vaccination on the first day of class.
