Stone Mountain has the largest Native American Cultural gathering in Georgia, featured will be a Dance and Drum competition. According to research done by historian Dane Calloway, approximately 98% of all African Americans are indigenous to North America by original ancestral birth and a percentage through mixing with the enslaved Africans who were brought on ships. He states that the Indians who “disappeared†after 1492 did not all die in the Holocaust inflicted within America, but in fact were taken into captivity as the enslaved. Statistics proves most native people of the Eastern Woodlands have a significant degree of African ancestry. The Narragansett, Pequot, Wampanoag, Shinnecock, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek, and Cherokee are these peoples. Dance competition begins Saturday and all prize winners must perform on Sunday. Let’s find a spot to Bar B Q celebrate and give homage to those who have roots in the native culture.
